Hello. I hope this thread is not redundant but I am looking to live in Scotland (probably in Glasgow) for less than 6 months. According the the UK's immigration website if you are a U.S. citizen (which I am) and looking to work in the U.K for less than six months you do not need a work permit. I am wondering if anyone else here has done this. Is it really as simple as it sounds? From the impression that I have gotten; I can arrive in Scotland, find a job, find a flat...and that's that. Im assuming that someone can burst my idealistic bubble.

Thanks,
Rachel

you CAN NOT work in the UK unless you are a full time student, british, from the EU, or have a special work permit - which are difficult to obtain, and apply only to people that have special skills that the UK has a shortage in.

As mlejoy has said it is difficult for foreigners who originate from outwith the EU or the Commonwealth to get work permits.

There is nothing to stop you coming to stay for a period of less than six months, provided you have the correct visa, but you HAVE to prove that you can support yourself during that time (ie bring in enough money to pay for food, rent etc!)
