Question

A few Years Back, I ran into some (internet) info about Americans who really enjoyed living in an 'American retirement community' in Scotland. It was represented as affordable, beautiful and do-able. Would anyone have any ideas about this type of area or community? Thanks. My wife and I are just investigating the possibilities, and Scotland is at or near the top.

A good place to start would be http://www.britain-info.org/ which is the British Embassy in Washington D.C.'s website. There you will be able to find information on visa requirements, etc.

I haven't actually heard of an American retirement community in Scotland, although I have heard of individuals who have retired to Scotland. I'll keep an eye out and if I find any useful information I'll post it.
