Talk About Change of Direction !

Ever since my kids started watching Disney Channel's "Suite Life of Zack and Cody" a few years ago and I got roped in, I became enamoured of London Tipton actress Brenda Song ! Her London Tipton character is dippy, spoilt, self-centred and really funny (for a Disney character). And so, I've seen her in the spin-off series at sea and her movies, such as Wendy Woo. She plays cute and sometimes charmingly selfish roles, but always wholesome at heart and real purity ring material. An archetypal Disney "good-guy" actor.

So imagine my surprise (and my kids, even though now older), when we watched The Social Network on DVD. It's a Hollywood version of the founding of Facebook by Mark Zukerberg et al. Bren plays a support role, Christy, g/f of one of the main characters. But what a character ! In one scene at a party, she and her 'soon to be' b/f steal away to a gents' toilets, where she latches onto him, giving him love-bites before undoing his belt etc and kneeling down and disappearing out of view, while he looks ecstatic ! No doubts as to what she is supposedly doing !

She also goes wacky when he goes to LA for a business trip and returns without having reported in regularly. She is insanely jealous and controlling and sets fire to his bedroom. (Mind you, I know the scene, I've been there - though no pyrotechnics, insane jealousy is not uncommon with SE Asians).

From Disney-cute to ermm - pro-actively worldly - and insanely-possessive, that's some role change ! Even Johnny Depp couldn't top that !
