Lachie, it wasn't the guy Shaw Grant? from Stornoway? I don't know the Atholl Vampire story. There's a good tale of the Vampire with the Iron Teeth which haunted the Southern Necropolis in the Gorbals in the 1930s. Caused a bit of hysteria at the time amongst the schoolweans, hundreds of kids invaded the cemetery one night, armed to the teeth, looking for the said "Ironteeth", the vampire apparently fled, sensibly enough.
Another wee bothy tale, a crowd of us were at a bothy for Hogmanay years ago, our first-foot was an English guy who stayed a night, joining in the festivities. Next day he set off late, over the hill, to the next bothy which we marked on his map. When he got there it was already dark, all quiet, nobody in residence, the bothy is a wee square wooden place, like a five year old would draw a house, he looked in at the window with his headtorch, the old empty rockin chair in the wee livingroom, was gently rocking to & fro. The guy fled back the way he came and arrived back with us in the early hours of the morning. wullie.
