Still Game

It might seem like I’ve been on the Moon, but I only became aware of this comedy last week when an English colleague lent me the first 2 series while singing its praises.

Magic ! Brilliant !

It’s the best Scottish TV comedy I’ve seen in a long time. My 15 year-old son watches it too and loves it (but being as he’s never lived in Scotland, he put on the sub-titles just in case). Ever since Jack came out with “hee-haw” for the first time, I knew I would love it !

So many favourite moments, but I loved when jack and Victor took the American wonder-pills (uppers) and were doing their hoovering and chores at 7.30 in the morning ! Then sitting there, the pair of them, chewing their Bubbalicious gum at lightning speed and fidgeting, desperate to get moving !

What’s that wee song Jack sometimes hums to himself, something about window boxes ? Pretty catchy !

My colleague is going to lend me series 3, 4 and 5. I can’t wait !

What did you think of Still Game ?

I remember jack's hummy ditty.

"Hurdy gurdy gurdy
In the window boxes"

Love it !

Feechies

My favourite Still Game moment must be from the Hogmanay special where Jack, Victor, Isa and Winston are stuck in the lift. Some Neds come by and offer to help them out in exchange for ten quid. Jack duly hands over a ten pound note but the chief Ned says, "feechies!" "Aye, feechies tae you too," replies Jack, to which the Ned says, "Naw, gie's ten quid fae each a yeese."

I read elsewhere that Ford Kiernan and Greg Hemphill had a bust-up and are no longer working together. Anyone know if there's any truth in that? Precedent is not good: Red Dwarf really went downhill after the main creative partnership split.

When my English mate Andy goes back to Kent this Christmas, he's going to bring me back series 1 -6 plus specials on DVD. It was Andy who put me onto Still Game in the first place.
