"We should salute the reckless courage of Gerard Carruthers, lecturer in Scottish literature at Glasgow, who argues that Robbie Burns is not quite the pure socialist some of us might like him to be.
"Robert Burns did not crop up much during last year`s celebration to commemorate campaigners such as William Wilberforce, who struggled to bring about the abolition of the slave trade."

No. On the contrary, the hypocrite made plans to emigrate to Jamaica - a slave colony!

Please explain, or shut up!

Did Robert Burns , our dodgy national bard, plan to emigrate to make his fortune, in Jamaica - a slave colony - or not?

Put up, or shut up.

Surely Burns's taking the oath as an Exciseman - a post of significantly Anglo-influenced patronage, is enough to demonstrate where his sympathies lay?
