I can't believe no one has recommended the Bay City Rollers.

What books on Scotland should I read?
What books on popular dress and culture should I look at?

What books on Scottish comics and cartoons should I look at?
What funny animal comics should I look at?

Is there a dictionary/glossary associated with the (slang) terminology used in Oor Willie and the Broons?

Scottish Books

As I said in the previous post: (but here with a little more detail)

How the Scots Invented the Modern World: The True Story of How Western Europe's Poorest Nation Created Our World and Everything in It
by Arthur Herman

Born Fighting: How the Scots-Irish influenced the making of America
by James Webb

These are for historical and cultural items. I am afraid I can't help with cartoons except. Here a a couple of websites but I DO NOT vouch for them.

www.scotoons.co.uk/pages/tsc.html
www.cartoonstock.com/directory/s/scottish.asp
www.greatclanross.org/cartoons.html

Of course there is the very unbecoming McCrory of Bugs bunny fame and ... if you want an iconic (that's a pretty word for stereotypical) view of American Scots ... Bugs BUnny doing the square dance to tame (or tease) the Hatfields and McCoys is always good.

AND ... here is a small Scottish dictionary page:

Does Local Hero and Gregory's Girl feature a lot of Scottish slang?

Thank you, but I want to stray away from stereotypes. I've seen some anime (Japanese animation) and the artists "think" that most black people wears their hair in an Afro.

Does this movie feature a lot of Scottish slang?
