Hey JK,

What happened to the big long reply you posted first? You know, the one all about how your mother was here (“Visiting the Motherland”) and commented on how Scots aren’t so friendly anymore and how we are all not in touch with...or was it... haven’t travelled abroad... and how we believe all the wrong things. Two paragraphs worth of a rant you have now deleted?

So you deleted all of that and left "Need the world ken?"

How much re-editing do you do JK and deleting of threads? I have counted 3 threads in as many days that you have deleted. Why would anyone want to talk to you when you keep changing your posts and deleting them?

Post what you want JK, that’s what forums are for.. so what if people (ME) don’t agree with most of what you have to say and think that your probably suffering from some sort of condition. They are your views and you are entitled to them, you’re as free to be insane as any other windae-licker...

Or alternatively you can continue to edit your posts and make yourself look even more like a ****. Remember just because it’s gone; don’t mean someone hasn’t read it...

I miss all the good stuff.. lol..

JK.. its not really worth it to delete a post, You know.. because you never know who is reading the boards as a guest..

And besides.. why say it in the first place if you can't stick to your opinions.. or rants..

It's not a sentence. It may have originally been 'Need the warld ken' but it's part of an old song that was sung before it was ever written. I don't think the spelling is really all that important. As for the meaning in modern English; "Need the world know?", I don't think that carries the full meaning. I think 'ken' is one of those words that can mean many things at once and much of it's meaning is lost in these modern times when so much literalism abounds. In the old times people were better at having more than one idea in their head at any moment and the simulataneous meanings of individual words in those times reflected this.

My intended meaning, like my understanding of the song, was closer to something in between "Need the world know?", and "Need the world understand?" and even a wee bit of "Need the world recognize kinship?". 'To know' and 'to understand' and 'to connect' are really the same thing, but not today in English it seems, and apparently, not today in Scotland.

Ken?
