Willy's Wonka

So has anyone seen the NEW Charlie and the Chocolate Factory yet?

What did you think of it if you have?

Has anyone read the book and seen the original Gene Wilder Film?

Yes I seen it.. lol

Now.. I have never seen the original, so I was expecting a bit more of a child's type of moive.

I was not disappointed at all.. I just thougth it was weird.. lol.. and I've been told that, Weird is what it was suppose to be.. lol.. so I guess it was good..

Johnny Depp was as expected weird and brilliant. I have not seen many of his moives that I didn't like. In fact I cant think of one off the top of my head that I didnt' like. I also seem to enjoy his movies.. and I love the fact that he only takes on Weird rolls.. lol.. its' very fitting for him..

I will have to see the original with Gene Wilder to perhaps see the differences/or lack of..

As a big fan of the original movie, I was very curious to see this new version. I knew it was supposed to be truer to the book (written by the brilliant Dahl). I loved the movie. I thought the acting was brilliant. But seriously, who doesn't love Depp? Does he ever have a bad acting role? I also liked how they honored the story and made it different enough from the first that you can enjoy both equally. The only thing that did bother me was the fact that all the Oompa Loompa's were played by the same actor. It was funny but at the same time kind of annoying.

Hi Clover,

Is it not true that in the original story by Dahl that the Oompa Loompa's were all Identical anyway? and that the problem with the earlier screen version was that they did not have the CGI to make them all identical.. so they got six dwarfs with similar physical attributes.

It has been so long since I've read the book that I honestly can't remember. Knowing Dahl's writing style it probably is true. I'll have to go back and read the book again. I wonder if this movie is a success they'll make a movie of charlie and the great glass elevator?
