I have recently read 'Oscar of Alva' by Byron and I am looking for poems by him of a similar nature. I would also like to find love poems. If you know of any good ones please reply.

Sure, Joshua--so ye're enamoured o' the man who was "mad, bad, and dangerous t' know", aye? Right, then--try "Maid of Athens," and "Don Juan" (the cantos); then, if ye insist on pursuin' th' work of this insane Sassenach, try his drama in verse, "Manfred" (a self-portrait).
Of course, if ya wanna get t' th' nature of poetic genius...get th' complete works of Robert Burns (IMHO)... ------------------ celticjack Ar do slainte! |

One t' add (if ye insist on readin' this deviant Anglo)-- "She Walks In Beauty" (like the night...)...but get over it quickly, lad, come back, and we'll talk about TRUE poetic greatness...(oh..don't mind me...I'm th' resident Auld Geezer...)

I have this thing against Lord Byron. For one thing, he was born in Aberdeen, I belive.
Another thing, the guy was a cretin. Did anyone ever hear of J.W. Polidori, a young English doctor? He was so much in a cloud of admiration for the poet, that he was greatly disturbed by Byron's rejection. Byron went so far as to laugh when Polidori, who was believed to be manic-depressive, had a mental break-down and attempted suicide. There is even a song about it: Silly, silly Poli, Running, running after women Who will never love you Why do you waste, Why do you waste Your time on them? Repeat 2x Who stood by Lord Byron When he wrote Childe Harold Only, only you? Silly Poli, running after Women who will never love you. Why do you waste your time on them, Silly Poli? Oil of amber, arsenic, Charcoal and prussic acid For you, it's your brew. Fall to the floor, Don't breathe anymore, Silly Poli, it's over. In the end when Byron cast him off, Polidori had a major breakdown and finally managed to escort himself from this world, using enough poison to kill twenty. ------------------ Thanatos//:{ |
