The Man From the Bowery
1 From the flophouse on the Bowery
He roams around the town
He lives in the obscurity
Of what brought him down

By the train tracks, by the wharf
A-wandering would he come
He looks around disconcertedgly
This is not where he's from

(Chorus):
Shoot it up, throw it away
Waste your time and your life
Shoot it up, throw it away
But don't forget, someone cares..far away

2 Swears to God detox and all
Won't save his poor soul
The purest high that is, of course,
His ultimate goal

Everyday he says that someday
He'll cease to roam
Quit his many failings and
Go home

(Chorus):

3 Time seems to stop in his
Little reality
But he's still sane enough to
Ask "Is this for me?"

Methedone and and heroin that's
All that seems to be
Along with cocaine, acid,
And all the LSD

(Chorus):

4 Perhaps someday he'll wander
Away from here
Leave behind his delusions
And fears

But wait, I forgot, that cannot
Be so
He stumbled into the path of a car
On his way home

(Chorus):
Shoot it up, throw it away
Waste your time and your life
Shoot it up, throw it away
But don't forget, someone cares...far away

Far away, far away,
Remember the Bowery ain't your home
Home's far away, far away,
Someone cares, far away.

This is based on an article in 'Harpers' magazine that I read.

Please can I have some feedback on this. Thanx.

The song has a bit of romanticism to it and at the same time plagued by pessimism. I am made curious by it, but it is a little to dark <drug related> for me...

It's based on a true story. I was shocked by the article at first, my self. Though never having done drugs, I have several close friends who have and have had addictions. I read a psychological study on the effects and psychology of drug addiction. It scared the heck out of me.
