A Warrior's Heart

Once Long, long ago in the highlands there lived a warrior among the clan Macleod.
He was the son of the clan Chieftan, and he feared only two things.
His father and losing his honor, that was his most prized possession even more than his life.
One day his father told him that they were going off to battle, and he was proud to be fighting alongside his eldest son.
The battle raged, and the Macleods returned victors yet again.
Only this time as they returned, Duncan saw the most beautiful of lasses.
Her name was Beth, and she was the betrothed of one of the Macleod's cousins.
Fate it would seems desitned to keep these two apart but the human heart, often doesn't listen to fate.
The two, Duncan and Beth fell in love and often spent time together in secret because neither wanted to hurt her good name or honour.
The wedding grew closer and Beth begged Duncan to marry her, and he wished to with all his heart but he knew that he could not because she was pledged to his cousin.
Duncan gave her a bracelet as a token of his love for her, but one day as they were in the camp.Duncan's cousin,Christopher found the bracelet among some of Beth's things. This put Christopher in a rage, he ran out of his tent right up to Beth who was cooking and struck her in the face and asked her, Who gave you this? When she replied you're cousin Duncan, he reared back his hand to strike her again. During this, Duncan ran to Beth's side and grabbed his cousin's arm before he could strike her again.
Christopher pushed Duncan away, and said to him you made my intended a strumpet! I demand blood, and he drew his sword.
Duncan begged Christopher don't do this, but Duncan's father demanded that they fight because he was the son of the clan Chieftan and he would be dishonoured if he didn't fight. So they fought and Christopher drew first blood, at this Duncan shouted "Honour is satisfied, you drew first blood". Christopher though was not sastisfied, and he contuined to fight. The fight ended quickly though, with Christopher so angry that he ended up getting run through on Duncan's sword. The wound was mortal and he quickly died. Duncan's Father than said, "now honour is satisfied".
Time passed, months actually and Beth said to Duncan now you can marry me. He said that he could not because he had killed his cousin. After this Beth ran off in tears, Duncan chased after her but to his shock she ran to the edge of a cliff and threatened to jump.
Duncan not wishing her to die, begged her to step away from the edge and take his hand he had changed his mind. He would marry her, and they would run away from all that they knew and held dear if he had to.
Fate mocked him though, and as Beth reached for his hand the edge of the cliff on which she stood gave way and she fell to her death. Heartbroken Duncan ran to the edge of the cliff and shouted toward the heavens Why? He than turned and walked away, from his friends, his family and his heart.
Much time passed, years (it often takes that long for the hearts wounds to close) actually when Duncan recieved word that his father was dying and his mother wished to see him. So he began his journey back, what home held he did not know.
