who says the Scots are not romantic?

What a man will do to keep a woman, when there seems to be no hope at all.
He see's the sun shinin' through the rain, good or bad times here remain.
They say the best things in life are free, but it never seems that way to me......

I don't know, what you want, but I will always be there. Close to you, I will always be.

Sometimes I think, I must be crazy, need a chance to make things right.
I could have died if I wanted to, it wouldn't have been because of you.
The more we know the less we understand, you got me sittin' right in your hand.

I don't know, what you want, but I will always be there. Close to you, I will always be.

A lonely walk through lifes great journey is all I have if I don't have you.
You stole my heart with one little glance. I knew you were trouble, but didn't stand a chance.
They say that love is just for fools, you didn't play fair and I fell for you.

I don't know, what you want, but I will always be there. Close to you, I will always be.

Close to you, I will always be.......

just to explain it...

Its called the "Ballad of Gary Smith" and the first two verses written as a guitar ballad by a friend of my cousin. It was on the B side of a single by another Scottish musician but I don't think it ever got into the charts.

Because I can't play the guitar to save myself I wrote some piano music for it and added the third verse. I think its something that every guy goes through at one point in their life, probably every woman as well. In love with someone who you've lost, or have never had.
