I'm reading Diana Gabaldon's "Outlander"-series.

I loved the first one!... i read it on recommendation from people here at s.com., in fact. I got stalled in the second book, though. It's been sitting there with the bookmark in the same place for at least a year.

When it was recommended to me, both men and women recommended it, so i thought i was more likely to enjoy it, but though it is definitely the cream of it's genre, it's what my friend Susan calls "A Bodice Ripper!" LOL ...literally in this case, as i believe the heroine's blouse gets ripped in the first 50 pages!

I well recommend it to anyone who enjoys that type of book!

Well, I got started the same way - got it recommended by my sister-inlaw. Read the first 2 once got the second 3 read them all in abot 3 weeks.

When I finished "The fiery cross" (no. 5) - I got so depressed I started to read them all again!

LOL!

Emma, if you like those books you might give Guy Gavriel Kay a try.... they are not quite so ... um... over the top?... as the Galbalden books, but equally page turners! Kay (perhaps because he's a male author)... is more likely to appeal to readers of both genders.

He's most famous for the first work he ever wrote... he and another author were asked to finish Tolkein's last unfinished novel.. Samarillion... quite an honor, so you can imagine what a talented author Kay is!

Anyway, the book to try him out would be, The Lions of Al-Rassan... and don't worry, it's plenty sexy and adventurous, too!

I'm looking forward to the next one (A breath of snow and ashes) that's released in March. And then you've got the new HP book in June or July...

What is it about?

i couldn't agree more - i finished the first two, and started the third and they just get more and more outrageous and implausable (not that time travel isn't implausable, but they just got ridiculous)

loved the first one though.

i've said this on here before -but a really GREAT book is "pillars of the earth" by ken follet - it's excellent - much better than outlander - probably my favorite book.

ps - i'm currently not reading anything (i've been travelling non-stop this month so no time )
