With two new annuals coming out this Christmas, I have a question that has recently started to keep me awake at night.

Can you put the Broon family in ascending (or descending) age order?

I'm surprised that in a Scottish literature forum, these two classics have been kept quiet.

Ascending order? No.... can't even be sure of the names

Hen
Joe
Daphne
Maggie
The Twins (did they have names?!)
The Wean/the bairn

The clever, skinny school boy?

As you say, both are literary classics, but I always preferred the Broons tae Wullie.....

The Broon family

You missed out Pa, Ma and Grandpa. The schoolboy was Horace.

When I was Wullie's age, I liked him but now I am approaching Pa's, I prefer the Broons.

The older ones. Fat Boab wearing a baseball cap!!! Whatever next?

Ah, the But n Ben.
So many memories.
I was always a big fan of Oor Wullie. My gran used to buy me which ever one was coming out next each Christmas. She hasn't bought me a copy in a few years though. I may have to jog her memory.

Which wan wis aulder? Hen or Joe?

It wis Number 10, Glebe Street, they steyed (ah say steyed, STEY!) at. Wance they got in bit of a fankle wi the Glebes, who live at 10 Broon Street.

The Bairn an the Twins don't huv names, as is only right an proper. Ah'm no sure aboot the Bairn to be honest. Ah suspect she may be some scary auld Whitever-Happened-Tae-Baby-Jane kinna dwarf-type character. An the Twins kinna creep me oot a wee bit as well. Did ye know that wan ah the Twins is a lassie?

Ah mind in a second-hand bookshop in Glasgow, a very poash wumming causin a great deal ah puzzlement by askin if they hud any books aboot "The Browns" (ah kid ye not). Guy wis scratchin his heid until she said "You know, the Browns from the Sunday Post newspaper"... penny drops.
"Awww, the Browns!!!!"

Oh an by the way... Stewart... fur fuxache don't refer tae it as a "Scottish Literature Forum" - ye've nae idea the bother ye'll get yersel in. Nae names, nae pack drill. Mum's the word. Know whit ah mean? If ye want tae get a flavour of it jist leaf back a wee bit in the posts.. talk about stushie? See rammy? No in it. Leaves stramash standin in its dust.

And, in a desperate attempt to contribute, I think the name of Ooor Wullie's wee mouse was "Jeemie".

And I'm sure you all remember that the local polis (wearing a "very" out of date helmet) was P.C. Murdoch.

But, as for D.C. Thompson and all their works.............
