Thumbs up

Today I went to see the movie "The Italian Job"...it was awesome! "The Italian Job" was the best heist movie I've seen since "Ocean's Eleven". There was action from the first scene until the last, minimal violence, and not even that much bad language...AND STILL it was SO enjoyable! There was an ACTUAL plot (not all action movies have plots, you know)! The dialogue was tongue-in-cheek, and Seth Green was not only hysterical, but funniest parts in the movie were just an improv for him. If you see one movie this summer (and for the love of God don't let the one movie be "Matrix Reloaded") see "The Italian Job". You won't regret it!

Has anyone seen it yet?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Get the original out on video or dvd.
You'll soon realise how bad a remake of a fantastic original this 'New' Italian Job is.
Honestly.
Awfull!

Tom...I liked that Theron kept her clothes on in this movie...which is no small feat for that lady! Anyway, she put in a good performance. But Seth Green made the movie.

Sharp_Kid...you REALLY didn't like it? I can't believe that! I thought it was one of the better movies I've seen this year. And all those boat chase scenes were done without any CGI (computer generated images)...and the car chases were done without CGI as well...unlike "2 Fast 2 Furious".

OK, so it wasn't the worst film of the year so far, but as is the case with so many remakes, it didn't even come close to the original. Not that I would want it to be exactly the same, you understand.
The original used no CGI either, because computers still inhabited entire rooms rather than desk tops at the time of it's making, and yet the car chase scene is possibly the best in movie history.
I'm going to sound very anti American again, and I'm sorry for that, because generally speaking I'm not, but Hollywood has a bad habit of losing the original identity of a film when trying to remake it. All the character has been sucked out of so many films by the money greedy box office hungry corporate film companies. The wonderful exception to that rule is supernatural thriller, "The Ring", which I loved as much as the original. Probably because it was almost identical.

"The Ring" was great! I never saw the original, but, like you said, I've heard it was almost identical.

"Sabrina" was a good remake (even though it died at the box office)...I know they were trying to remake a classic Audrey Hepburn movie, but it turned out really well. The dialogue in the movie is good too.

"The Mirror Has Two Faces" is a remake of a French film...have you seen the American version?

I haven't, but then I haven't seen the French version either.
Is it worth me digging out both?

Sharp_Kid...I haven't seen the French version either, but the American-made film is a fairly decent movie despite the fact that Barbara Streisand is the leading lady. It's about two college professors who are determined to have a relationship that is based on intellect instead of sex.
