This film is more or less based on a true story, right?
I wonder if anyone on this forum could give me a few keywords to help me fin more info on the history behind. (This is for an assignment before a journey to scotland.) thanks in advance /joel |

Hi,
I´m not from Scotland so I´m probably not the right person for helping you but why don´t you just try a search engine such as google or yahoo with the keywords "Braveheart" or "William Wallace"? I´m sure you´ll get a lot of information from there... Good luck for your research! Anneli

swooch, you might want to visit the History forum to find out for sure. There are several discussions about the subject there. Also, in the New Members forum someone has posted this link to a site with a lot of historical info. It looks like a good site. You may want to check that out as well. We can't always depend on movies to be historically accurate....

hello, swooch and welcome to Scotland.com.
![]() Read this site: http://www.electricscotland.com/history/wallace.htm and, yes, the film "Braveheart" contains a number of inaccuracies. I suppose films do tend to, although much of the time, the stories they choose to mess with would be sufficiently enthralling without any......ahem.....let's be polite and call it "embellishment". ![]() I did see a site that very carefully does the "compare and contrast" thing vis a vis history, so far as it can be known, and the film version. If I can find it again, I'll be back. Best of luck with your assignment. ![]() |

Thanks so much aNonnyMoose and Celyn! The sites were great!
Yes, the movie did embellish and change some things for "artistic license" reasons. In some ways I wanted it to be historically accurate, but then loved what they did to the film otherwise. If anything it made those who were interested in Scottish history do some research on their own, like me! |
