There's a wee bit in that movie, filmed in Glencoe, Aonaich Eagach maybe? where, for a second, you see the Ballachulish Bridge in the distance! wullie m.

Ah yes - Braveheart's Battle of Stirling Bridge without the bridge ! The key pivotal part of the whole battle - missed out for cinematic story-telling reasons. Now that was totally stupid. Why not make Gettysburg without Pickett's Charge ? Or D-Day without the landings ?

BTW what has happened to Mel ? He's gone into social meltdown !

sadly there's not a theme on earth no matter how noble or historically relevant that Hollywood can't ruin, and they ruined the legend of William Wallace. Although there were some good bits and the action as far as action goes was great and the acting in the supporting roles too. But overall it was just another dogs' dinner. Americans can't understand Scottish history in any form and maybe it's just best left that way.

there's never been a film about the great men of the 51th Highland division in WW2 and that's a crying shame. And the life and times of Arthur Thompson. Now that would be a film worth showing up to watch.

Well, IMHO, the 51st were good in WW2, but (apart from St Valery and El Alamein) weren't more notable than a number of other formations, including 15th Scottish. Monty even criticised the 51st's lacklustre performance in Normandy, though that was at least due in part to veterans being played out and more wary about charging around than before, an influx of untried conscripts, the difficult bocage conditions and of course Monty covering his arse for his own poor tactical decisions.

I think WW2 movies are played out by now and it will be a while until another WW2 film is made.

On the other hand, I have believed for a long time that a movie should be made about McCrae's Battalion - 16th (Service) Btn Royal Scots (2nd Edinburgh City) in the Great War.

Arthur Thompson - that would be a great film about when he played for Hearts. Like the time Hearts were on a BBC TV football quiz programme called "Quiz Ball" and Donald Ford was answering Route 1 questions etc (the hard ones) - meanwhile Arthur chose a route 4 question (the easiest questions) and when asked something incredibly simple (like 'what's one and one ?'), blurted out "Cummon - gies a break !"
