I remember there was quite a lot of correspondence re JK Rowling's books a while ago...

The fifth book is scheduled to be released on 21 June 03. The article I read printed the opening lines of the new book as
'The hottest day of the summer so far was drawing to a cose and a drowsy silence lay over the large, square houses of Privet Drive... the only person left outside was a ttenage boy who was lying flat on his back in a flowerbed outside number 4.......'

The delay has been explained by Rowling's marriage, house move and pregnancy!

Apparently, based on pre-orders alone, The Order of the Phoenix has already become Amazon's bestselling book in history--six months before its release! (The previous bestseller in Amazon's history was Goblet of Fire.)

Question

Really? That's interesting to know... I'm probably going to go to the local bookstore at the Navy Exchange and put one on hold....

I have alredy reserved myself a copy of Order of the Phoenix with Amazon.

And Lord of the Rings is terrible. It's so boring. I have forced myself to read the whole thing, and as an "Adventure"(?) novel, it stinks.
The foreword by Tolkein makes me laugh. The bit where he's going on about writing a long story whilst still keeping the reader interested. Interested my left test ikle.
There is so much in there that just has no relation to the rest of the story. Tolkein is a good writer, as The Hobbit proves. Every event in that book relates to other events. Lord of the Rings is so disjointed.

Lord of the Rings would have been so much better if someone had edited out all the needless stuff.

I do, however, really like the sentitment of creating a British mythology rivalling that of the rest of Europe. We need something like that, but it needs to be similar in structure. Less classic epic novel, more collection of old wives tails and fairy tails.

That's just my opinion though. Feel free to call me stupid.
