by the way, quill, i, too, ask myself why it's so hard for some folks to treat others with dignity and respect.

well, whatever books you think are good, i would like to know.

[b]hey susan and quill. thanks for responding to my posts. susan, my dad was born and raised in south carolina, so i have some southern influence rubbing off on me. i love that southern cooking and sitting on porches and stuff. the south is so full of history. when i went to visit s.c., i was struck by that feeling. there was a lot of sadness i felt, but also joy, as if i were feeling what had happened to my ancestors in the past. anyway, have you seen the movie "down in the delta"? i really liked that.

No, I haven't heard of that movie but I'll try to see it some time soon. South Carolina is a lovely state; years ago we visited Pawley's Island for a weeks's vacation and I had such fun birdwatching, seeing for the first time the amazing fishing skills of the ospreys. My husband was pea-green with envy! That big bird would drop into the surf and come up with a fish as long as your arm.

And that's no fish story! LOL!

Mockingbird

G'Day Susan

Tis amazin' as you say what turns up on
Scotland.com. You must have a real affinity
with the characters in "Mockingbird' especially
coming from a similar place. I loved the book and
just wish Harper Lee had written more novels like
it. Her descriptions of the characters and the
town itself are wonderful. Heard too that the
movie " Green Fried Tomatoes" is enjoyable but as
yet haven't seen it. Older movie I think, maybe
get it on video. Cheers
