has anyone read a book called pillars of the earth, by ken follette?

it's about 900 pages long and i just can't put it down... i'm almost done now.. but it's the best book i've read this year (it is ALMOST as good as outlander- but this books main characters are english).

totally my type of book i love historical fiction (anything and it has sex and romance and mystery and violence and twists and turns and it's soooo good!

anyway just wondered if anyone has read this book. it was recommended to me by a scottish guy that used to post here... i'm sure a lot of you "book worms" would love it!

I found that at Salisbury Cathredral but it was 9 pounds,(price and weight!) and I didn't want to try to drag it home on the plane so I am planning to get it here. Sounds WONDERFUL! Sounds a bit like Sarum which was good, too!

what is sarum?

sorry for not answering any questions that were directed to me - i dont check this board all that often

pillars of the earth was a great book set in england in the mid 1100's...about this poor man and his family and how he had a dream of building one of the greatest cathedrals in all the world and it's about his life and his family's life and the evil bishops and kings and rich people and it's really good...it spans 2 generations and anyway it's hard to explain but once i started reading it i could not put it down...i highly recommend it...especially if you like historical fiction.

if you dont like historical books than you could try another of his books...i just finished one called "the 3rd twin" about these scientists who were doing a form of cloning back in the 70s as part of a military project and what the rammifications of that project were in the 90s - it's a myster/suspense/thriller type boook and was pretty good too.

Sarum is a historical fiction of England from pre-history to the present. It covers possible reasons for building Stonehenge to Roman invasion, to plague times, to moving from Sarum Tor and building Salisbury Cathederal. VERY GOOD also very long, so read it when you have time to put in on a good long story. Peoples families and their positions change through out the story and it's very enlightening about how class distinctions got started and didn't stay the same! It's made up of short story type works so it's easy to come back to, you don't have to keep track of say, Otters family from pre-history to modern times!

Read it, it's good!
