Seems when I was about 2yrs. old I called mine "Faither" lol! Mum was always just that but she called her mother "Maw"...a bit unusual in Dundee. But what have parents used as an endearment to the kids? I was "hen"!

Historical Scottish Terms of Endearment - 1500s
Hello!
I am also curious as to what a Scottish child would call their mum or father, however, I'm looking for an endearment that's a lot older....around the early 1500s of Scotland. Not sure if anyone can help with this. I am writing a romance novel and have been using "M'ma" or "P'pa", but I'm not sure those are accurate AND if they are, I wouldn't mind a little variety in the endearments used. Thanks! Arial ;) |
