Welcome

Hi there,

EK is East Kilbride isn't it?

Just checkin, just remember maybe not everyone will have the political boundaries of Scotland 100% straight - equivilent of putting American State (or smaller contractions in)

Paws for thought

White-Tiger

Yes, EK is East Kilbride. The English is a straight translation of the Gaelic.

Fit like David?

Where I work, EK is East Kokongo! It's an oilfield off the coast of Angola.

Fhuair mi a-mach gur h-e CILLE BHRÌGHDE AN EAR a chur a' Ghàidhlig air East Kilbride.

Ma tha sibh airson àinm àiteachan ceàrt fhaighinn seall air http://www.smo.uhi.ac.uk/cgi-bin/sbg

The above in capitals is the correct Gaelic for East Kilbride. Go to the above link for placenames in Gaelic. Remember to use capital letters if appropriate.

Cheers for that. The thing is, how many people in Portree or Stornoway would understand where you meant? We had this debate with Bearsden. It's Gaidhlig name is Cille Phadraig Ur (New Kilpatrick) but I think most people would understand it better as Tha mi a fuireach ann am Bearsden.

Talking Oi! Oi! Oi!

this appears to be quite an old thread, but I'm bored, and I need to practice some Ghaidhlig...
Is mise MorCeit, tha mi a Arizona, U.S. Tha mi deig agus sia. Tha mi a' scriobhadh ceol ann am Ghaidhlig. Tha i gle breagha language, agus tha i mor ag eisdeachd do. Tha mi a' bruidhinn beagan Ghaidhlig, Tha mi ag ionnsachadh.
I like this phrase: 'S dh'imich an sgeul mar sin (and so passeth the old tale away.)
I hope this is what I wrote:
My name is Marykate, I'm from Arizona, U.S. I'm 16. I write songs in Ghaidhlig. It is a very beautiful language, and it is great to listen to. I only know a little Ghaidhlig, but I'm learning.
Masaihn mhath!
