I am an American 1/4 Scottish and was always told that the family friends were talking in a brouge (I'm not sure if that's spelled correctly). In any case, what is the difference between a brouge and the Gaelic language?

Andy,
I'm traveling to Scotland next summer. It would be interesting to start a few conversations from a Scot. What do you think of the art fest in Edinburgh? How crazy is it? Where would you suggest to stay? What's the best route to go for two sisters the first time in Scotland? Thanks! Seraphine |

Seraphine,
I've never been to the Edinburgh festival but I understand that it is quite crazy.I would suggest that you stay somewhere central.Stirling is ideal. It's about 30 miles from both Glasgow and Edinburgh and it's convenient if you want to travel to Loch Lomond or the highlands as well as having plenty of historic monuments etc. There are plenty of bed and breakfast boarding houses which are quite cheap.I'm into camping myself and there are loads of camp sites all over Scotland, but the weather is very unpredictable so you would have to trust to luck.If you fancy a bit of hiking there is the west highland way which goes from Glasgow to Fort William.I would recommend that you visit Loch Lomond and the North West,Oban,Skye etc. where the scenery is breathtaking and also the Island of Arran. |
