Wink

The following Gaelic sentence should say "with the claymore for Scotland".
I want to know: is the grammar correct?
"Leis am claideamh-mòr do Alba!"

I also want to know where can I get a Gaelic grammarbook?

Question

Forgive me if I'm wrong but I was under the impression that claideamh is a sword and claideamh mór would be a big sword. Other than that I think the sentence is correct but once again, I could be terribly wrong. Sorry that I couldn't be much help.

Hello!

"The New English-Gaelic Dictionary", Derick. S. Thomson, Glasgow, Gairm Publications, 1986 9017710660x

says that "sword" = "claideamh"

and "claymore" = "claideamh-mor" (with the grave accent over the "o"

To me, it looks as though your sentence is correct, but I hope a knowledgeable person will come along soon!

"Leis am claideamh-mòr do Alba"

Tha mi a' smaoineachadh gu bheil

"Leis a' chliadeamh-mhòr do dh' Alba"

nas fheàrr.

I think the above is better.

Sgitheanach is right, except for the spelling error no-one has put right yet: "Leis a'claidheamh-mhòr do dh'Alba". Actually, having said that, I'm not sure if "claidheamh" is feminine. If it is, you are right. Forgive my ignorance. BTW Sgitheanach is my Gaelic signature right? I hope so as I spent a while working it out. Tapadh leabh.
