Is BBC Gaelic Killing the language.

Is BBC Gaelic killling the language? Is its diversity not an important part of the language? Was anyone collecting the dialects of the last speakers of the Gaelic of the Trossachs in the last decades? Does anyone give a damn that there is nothing genuine or unspoilt in Scotland nowaday. Not even our thoughts and our words?

I have no views on this topic as I do not speak or understand more than a couple of words of Gaelic.

I thought you'd decided to leave us to our own devices?

If you have no views on the topic why are you posting? Seems rather pointless. Decided to post on threads only that do not deal with Scots/Gaelic conflict, so there is no reason for the usual suspects to be on them. I am interested in developing my understanding of Gaelic only so no need for those whithout opionions on the matter to even glance in my direction.

id disagree with that bit.....there are loads of bits of scotland unspoilt and loads of new and up coming writes would disagree that our words are not genuine or unspoilt too no doubt.

as for thoughts...well mine are genuine and unspoilt as far as i know....just a thought tho.

ive no idea if anyone collected dialect samples from the trossachs either...you could try asking the bbc if they did...or even ask your uni if they did

Surely Gaelic being televised at all can only help the language survive; what's the alternative? Have no Gaelic on tv at all? Of course regional diversity matters, but the survival of the language should matter more! So maybe instead of putting the beeb's efforts down you should try applauding them, as I am sure Gaelic speakers, students and supporters in general will be doing... even those from/in the Trossachs!

For a language to survive it needs a strong body of speakers. If those new to the language are faced with every recorded dialect then that goal of increasing the speakers is going to be that much harder. Save resurrecting the local dialects until there are enough speakers to warrant it.
