[quote=BonnieGC;419393]Hi, I was hoping I could find some folks who know the Gaelic language fairly well and could give me a hand with naming my son who's due in late May.
Congratulations on haveing a baby. Although I am far from an expert in Gaelic/Celtic names I did a google search to find Barry in Celtic. Although my heritage goes back to Scotland, I found out my name is Irish Celtic. The spelling for Barry is Bearach. Check out these two web-sites: baby-names.adoption.com/origin/gaelic.html; thinkbabymanes.com. Maybe these will help you. Good luck! Bearach |

A little off topic and I apologise in advance for it. Forgive my ignorance but Polwarth referred to a language as "Scottish". When that was said was it meant to mean the version of English that is spoken in Scotland or a different language entirely?

There is great controversy about whether the Scots language(s) are really languages or merely dialects. I come down on the side of the former.
Do a google for Lallans, Doric and Auld Scots! The website Wir Ain Leid was always a good site to start
