The Midwestern Accent is considered Standard American English. Most of the newscasters are from that area. Not only does the media determine what one considers 'standard' so does the government. To be standard does not mean other dialects are 'sub-standard' just 'non-standard.' So, back to the original post... even standard English changes over time. It will different in just one year. That's why you can't have a pure language.... pure is dead because it never evolves.
