I was wondering if I could get a translation for my wedding vows, my husband and I are getting them tattooed on ourselves and it would be great if it was right. Ha ha right? ok so here are the vows.

"Ye are Blood of my Blood, and Bone of my Bone.
I give ye my Body, that we two might be One.
I give ye my spirit, till our Life shall be Done."

No offense but that sounds like you're marrying a member of your own family, maybe modify the first line somewhat.

Be sure to verify any translation offered to you on this forum before getting them tattooed. Why not just go with a nice traditional Pictish design instead? The Picts (non-Romanized Britons) were the first inhabitants of what would later become Scotland, and they were all about tattooes.

Your comment does not offend me because the vow is a traditionally a blood vow, thus the blood of my blood, that was used in knot tying ceremonies during weddings. My family has used in weddings for as long as anyone I have talked to in the family can remember. It means something to me, and it was what we said when we got married. Those are my reasons for wanting this particular verse, not that I should have to explain myself, but I felt I must with the incest insinuation some of you felt compelled to leave. Your ignorance is astounding.

Auld Chiel I hope you do not speak to everyone on the Internet as if they were a child, of course I will make sure the translation is correct. It will be tattooed on my body making it permanent, where I will see it everyday. I have something specific in mind and this was a starting point in my research. Someone recommended this site, and I had high hopes. Thanks for the magnificent let down folks.

thats the way this site seems to be these days colette im afraid.
very few on here would be able to translate it for you as most dont speak fluent gaelic(although some think they do)

alas theres also no decent way of getting it translated on the net for free either

your best bet i think would be to pay someone to translate it on one of the various scottish translation sites

Here is a Gaelic translation of your wedding vows. Please note you have written them in old English, The language of Shakespeare or Chaucer. We don’t have the equivalent of those worthies.

This is as near as I can get it. The sentiments expressed are still there and actually sounds better in Gaelic.
