Bagodeni,
I know your right...I should only respond to post's that have something that I'm interested in. I have been studying Scotland's history and folk lore and stories for about 6 months now. I started looking for very distant family after I found out that our family line started in Scotland. I joined this site to make friends from Scotland and those who have been. I don't want to get into scruffs like it always seems to end up. I'm just tired of being where I'm not wanted and want to find another life. ( America ) Maybe I shouln't put my own experience's as justification for the remark's I've made about morality and values. I enlisted in the Army because I loved this country and I wanted to protect my loved ones. Besides my father was a buck sgt. in the army, and I was following in his foot steps so to speak. I didn't join because I needed a job, as some posters have suggested. I don't know how else to explain my comments. When I go to Scotland next July, I will have an open mind and heart. If people think I am crazy for searching for what ever it is I'm looking for in Scotland, than so be it. I'm trying to learn gaelic. Gaelic is history in Scotland and I'm going to do my best to be apart of it. I'm going to Inverness and Skye. I've made up my mind!! I will be sure to let someone know how my vacation went. But as you can see, I have no friends here who give a ****. Besides Sarahmaggie, another American who is in love with Scotland and it's people. Regards, MichelleLena |

Beag air Bheag
BBC - Alba - Beag Air Bheag
Hi from Scotty6405, Glad to see you are going. I have visited 5 times and most probably will return next July to meet up with some Scottish friends. I have covered most of Scotland on motorcycle except for way north - Orkney. Love the Scotch(Highland Park) from there although my favorite is Dalwhinnie. Gee whiz my favorite gin is Scottish also - Hendricks. I have listed a great Gaelic tool which I used to build up about 10 or so phrases. If you have nearly a year you could build a vocabulary. I did not meet many gaelic speaking people although there are villages with most all signage in Gaelic.

Hi Michellelena,
I hope you have a great time when you get there. I hope to visit again. I have a good friend from Canada who is in Scotland on a two year work contract at Aberdeen University (I think that's the name of it). So, we have an excuse to get out there. When I was in the U.K., the ONLY time I've heard the Gaelic was when I was in Northern Ireland at Ballycastle. There was an Irish Fisherman speaking it to his two young children as they were making their catch of the day. Anyhow good luck on your journey and I hope you find what you're looking for. |
