Well let's mention the fact that only today over 100 countries will ratify a treaty banning the use of cluster bombs and the US isn't one of them. The invasion of Iraq was about alleged weapons of mass destruction which never even existed but the US is above everyone else - they want to keep their WMD. It's things like that that should make Americans realise why many people worldwide regard the US as the most dangerous country on the planet.

Getting a wee bit off the topic Andy! We could all dig up a bunch of facts about any country we want to bash.

It just so happened that I heard it on the news today so it struck me as appropriate. I even think to myself sometimes am I guilty of mindless anti Americanism then things like that remind me that the US government is involved in many of the immoral practices that it accuses other countries of being guilty of.

Hi Michellena,

I'm an American living in Taiwan. I've been lurking on this forum for quite some time...I've had no idea where to start and always worried about saying the wrong thing.

Anyhow, I've been to Scotland twice for no reason at all. I seem to be drawn to far off and remote places and while everyone was going to Italy or some place romantic, I decided to go to Scotland. I must say that it's one of my favorite countries. I had a really good time.

If you don't mind my saying though, I think you've misread a few posts - there's no reason to be afraid. The one poster said that a few Scotsmen on this forum hate Americans but the percentage of people IN Scotland who hate Americans is very smal. So you have nothing to worry about there.

Also, Scotty65405 was actually being diplomatic by claiming that moral decay and greed are not only unique to America. It's everywhere...so it seems he was trying to be fair.

I hope you make it to Scotland. It's a wonderful country. Be sure and tell us how your vacation went.

Cheers,
Deni
