interesting, to say the least !

calum: i think you are right to advise a slightly more modern version. i came to this old version in an old scottish / gaelic song the week before my proposal, but forgot to bookmark the song... maybe slightly pathetic, but words like 'thee' actually sound a bit more romantic for a non-native english speaking person like me (simple dutchman :-)

this afternoon i recieved another translation: bidh gràdh agam ort an còmhnaidh

so, quite luxurious, i'm 'stuck' here with 3 ways to say i love you always to my lover :-)

“Bidh gràdh agam ort an còmhnaidh”

Your statement now reads “I will love you always”

“a ghnàth” and “an còmhnaidh” both mean “always”

Thee and thou are no longer in common use in English, therefore it is not necessary to retain them for translating purposes.

Which ever one you choose I’m sure you’ll fly through this ceremony.

Who said Gaelic was a simple language.... It's a beautiful language.
