Is your ditty written in Glaswegian or Scots, Gearoid. Reciting it verbally would give an English speaker from anywhere else in the country no difficulty in understanding it. Anyone wishing to adopt it as their official language is quite entitled to do so. My point was that it is so close to English as to make very little difference. I believe this was the point that the OP was trying to ascertain.

Would learning any of the Latin based languages you speak of enable you to be understood in any of the countries you speak of?

PS What does Gearoid mean?
