i agree the parents dont want to have theyre kid being ridiculed at school all its days for a dodgy name....

i got a bit of stick for my name in school....(still do sometimes)
and most people cant spell it either.

i know a girl called Kytte and its pronounced KIT btw
(its a kind of fiddle from ye olde days she tells me)

Without trying in any way to influence your selection of a name for your new-born, might I suggest the following:

In the Lowlands, bless them, they pronounce words as they are read, unless they are speaking in their own dialect, in which case, God knows what it will sound like. So Polwarth is right it would be ‘Kitty’.

In Australia it would probably be pronounced ‘Kytie’

In the Highlands, now, it would sound like ‘Kite’ I have heard Catherine and Catriona shortened to ‘Kate’, ‘Katey’, ‘Katag’, ‘Kirsty’, or just plain ‘Cath’ All fine names.

I suppose the part of the world you decide to raise the child in will influence your final decision. In any case I wish the wee bairn and yourselves much joy.

Regards,

Crofter.
