You are new here aren't you .
Stick around a bit , read through some of the threads . The vile race superiority that is spat out here by some who claim to be 'Highlanders' and 'Islanders ' , towards folk from the rest of the world will nauseate you .

Comments such as this from you ;
"I still belive that non-Gaelic speakers are jealous, and that is what underwrites a lot of their childish intransigence",
fit right in with the racial prejudice spewed onto these threads by those bigots .

I have never suggested race superiority. If you recall I originally did not consider anti Gaelic sentiment to be racist. If I feel that there is jealousy it is because non-speakers cannot take part in the full cultural life of the country. Most of the non-speakers are clearly passionate about Scotland (why else would they be on this site), so it is not hard to imagine that they might be envious of the fact that there is a whole part of Scottish culture from which they are excluded. Not excluded by race, no apartheid here, but want of effort in not learning the language. If the non speakers on this site feel indifferent about Gaelic why are they so eagre to emphatically engage in debate about it. By calling it latent jealousy I am being generous, although it might not seem so to some, otherwise it appears to me that some writing on this site are motivated by some pretty ugly form of prejudice. It all reminds me of how many public figures who have persecuted homosexuals have done so in response to recognition of their own homosexual tendencies. The healthy option is to admit that all Scots are more than a little Gaelic. Dont be shy, there are lots of pubs catering for the Gaelic and Gaelic curious in the West Coast, there are regular events and even a book shop in Partick that will allow you to explore your identity.

You are the one who put yourself and race superiority in the same sentence .
Freudian slip ?

The topic was that if English had not become the language of Scotland the country would be better off. In this hypothetical Scotland there would be no divide in the national character. It was not an attack on scots speakers. Tha mi uabhasach glic.

Another thing, look back and you will see that I was not the first to put race and superiority together. I have not really talked about race at all. Those who have must have some superiority/inferiority agenda. They do not seem to be arguing for the appreciation of diversity. I feel that this thread is toxic with anti-Gaelic prejudice. I am not a football fan but will be booking a place at the next old firm game just to clear my head.
