Translation Please??
G'day, My name is Matthew Howie and I live in Australia however my heritage is Scottish from Ayrshire to be exact. Im proud of my heritage and want to tattoo my name.
Can anyone translate Matthew Howie or just Howie into the old Scottish Gaelic so that I can get my tattoo as original as I can. I will then take than translation and tattoo it in maybe Uncial or Gaelic Script font. Any other suggestions for traditional Scottish fonts would be appreciated too. If not, can anyone advise me of where I can get my name translated? I have searched the net to no avail... Cheers and thankyou in advance. Matthew Howie |

Ayrshire had Gaelic speakers as late as the eighteenth century. However, Im not sure what Howie would be in Gaelic either unfortunately. Ayrshire was influenced by Galloway, which was a seperate Gaelic kingdom, or client kingdom in the Middle Ages and place names like Kilwhinning and Kilmarnock indicate a Gaelic presence there.
