I bet there were! I've not been up Goatfell, but the views from the String Road looking across the Kilbrannan Sound to Kintyre (and back across the Clyde to the Ayrshire coast) are superb!

Of course there were Celts. Celtic peoples are named from the culture that has its origin in where Austria/Switzerland is now. La Tene culture. THe Goidelic (Manx, Irish, Scottish) and Brittonic (Cornish, Welsh, Breton) languages are the modern remnants of that culture.
