Who cares? No one knows what these languages were. No one cares about these places like Bernicia etc.

I find it strange that you keep going on about words like Gaelic and Celtic and Anglo-Saxon.

The reason I have picked up on you is because you have the fixation.

THERE IS NO EVIDENCE THAT SCOTLAND WAS GAELIC.

And the Anglisch do talk shyte. So do you. Which makes me think you are not who you say you are.

You call me an Irish troll, yet when I look up your messages, you seem to be banging on about that gay Dutch monarch. Seems you are yet another person who confuses football with politics. Gaelic is not the same as Irish. Get a clue.

Your anti-Gaelic tendencies appear to have more to do with Ulsterism.

Perhaps you should read up on the subject. Saying "I know because I don't know" doesn't cut the mustard. We do know a great deal about these languages (I didn't mention picture). Try reading up on Scottish philology.

Andy -

"Decline and Fall" is very readable, but it's not taken very seriously, at least not anymore. It's a classic of literature perhaps, but not a good resource.

Deira and Bernicia didn't completely disappear. In fact, it was their merger which created Northumbria, and corresponded (roughly) to their boundaries. The Marches and "West Wales" (i.e. Cornwall) have both shrunk in size, and their borders have fluctuated much more perhaps.

" In the north of England you have full scale annexation of territory and either the exiling or absorption of native inhabitants- as occured with the Picts- as opposed to feudal dominion over Cornwall"

There are in fact records of the expulsion of the Cornish from Exeter, although there is controversy over how long the language persisted in Devon.

I've known SR for years. Born and bred in Scotland. So your pathetic jibes merely show you up for the cretin you obviously are.

"King Billie"
Is that the famous Bisexual Billie of Boyne fame? The one whose army in Ireland was sponsored by the Pope at the time? Who's always pictured waving a wee sword from the back of a white horse, when the truth is he was dragged ashore by a Dutch marine, having fallen off his wee brown mare as he wasn't very good on horses - and whose arm was in a sling from a previous fall off a horse.

In fact, if I recall correctly, he died after falling off a horse (recurrent theme here anyone?) eventually, the horse having stumbled when it put its foot down a mole hole...

Here's to the wee gentleman in the black velvet jacket!

Haw haw haw!
