There is a bit of a resurgence in Nova Scotia in Canada.

It would be nice if more of them stopped dancing and playing the fiddle and learnt their own language though. Not to mention adapting it to the modern world, like we're attempting in Scotland.

Actually getting arseholed, brawling, whoring, and going "UB40" is way up there.

If the foreigner slipped up on the 4th century Ireland thing, could you say the correct date for arrival in Ireland?
I'm not claiming anything, but one point to include is that it took 2 centuries to spread across US (using wooden ships to migrate) and 1 century in Australia, to replace the tribal languages.

''Hello.
I think that the schools in Scotland should not teach the students english as their first language. They would choose if they should study Gaelic, or Scots as their first language, and learn English as their secound language , and then the language they did not choose as their first , ans their third (or secound, if they wanted).'''

If Scots dump English at a time when the world is rushing toward it then you will see a decline in everything. Even the French are starting to embrace English. Notice how politicians like Sarkozy now speak English to the media. French politicians never used to.

Gaelic and other languages like Old English need to be relegated to the text books where they belong. The world has moved on. Nice as they are to listen to.

Well I'm not British, but it looks like the Irish and Welsh are giving it a good try at being bilingual.
