That was the point I was trying to make about the poll - it should have NotA as a choice

I have to agree with the 'none' option vote.

Appealing accent...I don't think people really care that much!!

I was in a shop the other week and the Scottish owner was saying that American voices bugged
him but as long as they were handing him cash he would be polite...he even said that an English voice
was better than an American one

oops I read that as "appalling"

No matter, my comment still stands. And if you don't like it, tough!

I suspect your shopkeeper speaks for many, Babz! I was in Perthshire in the Spring and bought a lovely pair of ear-rings - the jeweller said he was gearing up for the tourist trade and slapping on his permanent smile.... like your guy, he said he's happy to sell something to anyone!

Erm, excuse me for being pedantic here, SR, but, if you're going to use vernacular at least get it right...Noo Yawk and Noo Joisey, if you please..

Well I have to agree with Georgekidd that an American doing a Scottish accent (and they usually can't do one) and trying to convince everyone how Scottish he/she is, is extremely annoying. I had the misfortune of being on a tour with one. It was embarassing and she didn't realize what an arse she was making of herself or how offensive she was being. I stayed as far away from her as possible lest someone (American or Scot) assume I was of some aquaintance. *shiver*retch*

Might I suggest, though, that the next time you hear an American accent, whether handing you money or not, that you listen. Once you've heard a few, mentally compare them. You might not ever like the accent, but you might find some less annoying than others.

You know, we're not all boarish, arrogant, condescending, prigs. I admit there are some who are and I would like to add they are the same way to thier own countrymen, as well. Simply insufferable, sorry excuses for human beings. I'm sure every country has a few, including Scotland. France seems to have a never ending supply.
