Those statistics could indicate a myriad of things and do not clearly indicate that national identity is stronger amongst ourselves than the Welsh.
Perhaps the reason for the lesser percentage of Welsh people wanting independence for Wales compared to Scots, is that Scots feel less secure in their Scottishness than the Welsh do in their Welshness. So therefore, they need to project it more forcefully than the Welsh.
That the Welsh are a smaller country with less resources than Scotland could be another reason.

The obvious conclusion to draw would be that Scots have a stronger sense of seperateness from England which is reflected in the substantially higher percentage who favour complete independence.

I don't think that is the obvious conclusion to draw. FOr me, it is that English people have moved to Wales in far greater numbers than they have, as yet, moved to Scotland.
