Ah yes Toraidh = Tory, I see now. Yeah I did know that, though the spelling threw me a bit.

I don't really label myself a Tory, I consider myself a libertarian, which in some peoples eyes is a Tory, though why some people want to make Tories the only people who are pro liberty is something I find a bit puzzling.

Some people might consider what I wrote about education a bit right wing, but I am really not to fussed about labels myself.

That's always the problem with sticking labels on folk (which of course I just did!) in that many people have a mixture of opinions, not always all in line with conventional 'political wisdom'... whatever that might be. I'm a nationalist with very little time for the current SNP, for example. Frankly, they're a joke just pandering to the pretensions of the Vichy Parliament, which is just a mini carbon-copy of Westminster with no powers except over dog-turd legislation and the likes.

I don't think your views on education are right wing at all, I would say a return to a more basic form of education (the sort I had 30+ years ago) might be no bad thing. Je parle bien le francais (don't know if that's typed right though, haven't written in it for years, sat my higher 3 years before your statistics) and had 2 years of Latin which was an excellent base for both language, medical and other studies performed since. I agree that it is difficult to 'water down' a language examination, pity they couldn't apply that to many other subjects.

I agree with you re the benefits of having learned Latin (I did 5 years and still make use of it).
Also, the idea of watering down any subject is, in my opinion, where education systems in the Western world have gone off the rails. The concept that everyone must be given a pass mark regardless of how well or poorly they've done is surely illogical? And it does not really help the individuals who would have failed formerly.
If only we could get back to how it was done 50 to 30 years ago in Scotland, I believe that we would re-set the golden glow on the Scottish education system.
In hindsight, it's a pity that we were offered German after 3 years of Latin and French, instead of Gaelic. I very much regret that I'm not at present part of the modern group of users of Gaelic (even though I'm a Lowlander).
