They need to put trade barriers up to China, stop using imported oil and reindustrialise America.
These are nearly impossible things to do. China would demand the US debt be paid, as would the Arab states, then there would be no money to reindustrialise the US. This is way past a right or left perspective now. It has to be done gradually over the next 5 years with the voluntary cooperartion of US industrialists; and there's the rub because these industrialists are the very ones who took US jobs out of the US and along with that US money. Why would they help now... one might hope patriotism may be appealed to, if not I don't know. |

I just want to add :
When Clinton left office, he left a budget surplus of 500 million. 8 years of Bush and there was the $14 trillion deficit. When you owe that kind of dosh there are really three outcomes : a) pay it back (if you have a manufacturing base - but the US can never compete with cheap Labour in China to whom they owe much of this money). b) don't pay it and go to all kinds of war c) be someone's biatch Bushism : a philosophy of failure What next, Palinism? One hopes she never gets her finger on the button... Not a happy picture and the US national debt seems only to get greater. Onwards and upwards... Last edited by Indy; 30th May 2011 at 16:33. |

And the answer is.... C
Sarah Palin needs to keep her hat out of the ring. She couldn't win the last election and she won't win the next one if she runs. I was however a fan of Hillary Clinton when she ran. I think she is a tough and smart lady. If Clinton was still president how do you think he would handle this mess that the government has gotten itself into? |

I think she wouldn't have lost her mandate discussing things with the opposition as O'Bama did.
A great orator who talked to much. Action was required. I do honestly wonder if Obama did a U-turn on universal health care because he saw that the USA is actually broke. One hopes the US gets itself sorted out but how long does it take to pay back $14 trillion? |

It will take 4....ever to pay it back and that's only if the people in Washington do something drastic and manage to stop all of the needless spending. I think Obama is following in George Bush's footsteps. When George Bush took office the national debt was around 5 trillion give or take. But Clinton had a balanced budget and reduced spending every year he was in office. When GWB left office the national debt was 10 trillion. Then comes Obama and it's only been three years and now we are up to 14 trillion and climbing. Scary stuff. I don't think you have to worry about Sarah Palin. Even if she runs she won't get elected. Too many people do not like her. So far the republicans don't have anyone out there that I would vote for. Mitt Romney is saying he is going to run again and surely he is wasting his money. The Republicans need to get someone out there who can appeal to the people and can back it up the with prior experience and a good record of what they are for and what they are against and that record should be able to be proven.
