Until now I didnt want to take sides. Sure everyone has ot a right to defend themselves, but they've even being blowing up Christian areas of Beruit. Predictible Bushes lapdog Blair is backing Israel but personally I think theyve gone TOO FAR. How can Blair support such carnage ? I am becoming increasingly sure that he is a dangerous liability to Britain and merely does and says whatever the US tells him to.
I feel the British and US establishment want to back Israel for political regions however the UK press is at the moment more or less unbiased. I wonder how long that will last before the Israelis are painted as the innocent victims.
I realise the situation is compicated - I have sympathy for anyone who suffers in this war be they Arab or Jew - but this is the impression Im getting.

A few facts about Lebanon should be noted. First they have a democratically elected government who is supported by the west and their military is supplied by the US and UK-they are in effect an ally. Only 59% of the population are Muslim, and most of the rest hate Hezbollah with a vengeance which is why Israel is making a massive mistake by dishing out a collective punishment to the whole country. The west and Israel need a strong and stable Lebanon whose government is secure enough to stand up to Hezbollah-with western support if needs be. By the time the Israelis have finished what will be left is a nation whose economic infrastructure will need billions to rebuild, whose government will be fundamentally weakened and where Syria will be waiting to move into the power vacuum. The Lebanese government will be too busy trying to rebuild their country to worry about anything else which means the real winners in the long term are Hezbollah. The Mullahs in Tehran must be rubbing their hands in anticipation-once again Israel has blundered.

The conflict could be ended right away if the US says the word but the hope is that Hezbollah can be damaged before Israel agrees to a ceasefire. It's a flawed strategy because even if the 20 000 fanatics they currently have were wiped out another 20 or even 30 000 would soon emerge to take their place. Probably the Israelis will keep it up for another couple of weeks before agreeing to an exchange of prisoners and a cease fire as that's what has happened in the past.

What a waste. Nothing like a violent government tantrum to destroy the lives of normal citizens world wide.

And I don't think Israel is too concerned about blowing up a few Christians, it's not like they support the Christian view.

Not quite. Even if Hezbollah stop launching rockets into Israel the Israelis are going to continue with their flawed strategy. They're probably quite surprised at the lack of international condemnation of their actions but they've succeeded quite well so far in bullsh!tting the international community into believing that their massive over reaction is a legitimate response to Hezbollah's aggression.
