Would it be the will of the Scottish people to have British Summer Time all the year round as opposed to the clocks being altered to G.M.T. every winter.

No. We need the little extra light in the morning. Anyway Summer Time was introduced during the First World War as a war measure. maybe someone should tell the powers that be that it has ended....

Maybe I've got it all backwards, but isn't it in the spring tht we end up with extra light in the morning? I'm not sure why we need it. Plus, I cannot see that *everyone* needs light at exactly the same time - what suits one group will be a nuisance to other groups.

All right, I am just too lazy to enjoy changing clocks - it seems silly to me. And, of course, sall that potential for turning up an hour late or early for things.....

Daylight saving was introduced to save electricity in the factories of WW1 (afternoon closing of the pubs was introduced around the same time to ensure that the workers returned to make use of the daylight saving). As such, it probably still has it's use - but is less important. The argument now is whether kids should go to school, or come home, at dark o'clock, esp in the frozen north (Furryboots)

Heheh - yep, I got it wrong way round the first time. Funny - I DO know the "spring forward fall back" thing, and which way the clocks go, but I got muddled with the logic of what the sun does. OR what the earth does, I suppose, really. Still it meant I got a nice surprise the evening after clock-changing.

I though Artoo's post funny, because only yesterday, I posted on another board mentioning this British obsession with letting the sillier laws date back to WWI.

As for the schoolkids, well, really, school hours could be changed without much bothering the whole country, and, in any case, they are only postponing the inevitable, as there WILL be dark mornings, and dark evenings, etc.

Hmm, I wonder why we could not have a referendum about this clock-confusion game.

With campaign badges!

And slogans!

HOUR TO THE PEOPLE!

Fuxache, woman! Are you mad (well....)? That would mean Mummy (or, occasionally, Daddy) having to change her work schedule to conform to the new school-run time in the 4x4 ! That's one of the things that caused outrage the last time we discussed abandoning BST (or was it GMT?) nationally.
