Me? Mad? Rubbish, I am the most sane and sensible (hell sounds a bit Jane Austen-y) person here. Well, OK, there, Well, OK, somewhere. Just haven't found out where yet, but, not to worry.

Hah, bloody 4x4 four pollution-monsters......yes......we really WILL meet enormous hills and scary terrain whilst driving the spoilt wee brats (oops.......little dears) to school.

Ah, and, of course, it is important always, to sit around , keeping the engine running, poisoning any pedestrians in the vicinity, while doing all this.

It must be quite a thing for teachers to find that they have to deal with sprogs who have not even yet learned how to walk.

Then again, there are school-teachers who are incapable of counting the number of short planks to which their own thickness equates.

Now, I think that my training as a cranky old fogey is coming along rather well. A gold star for me, please?

(More Celyn snarkniness - it is , in a way, rather unfortunate, that we do our voting in primary schools for the most part. It does have the effect of proving that literacy skills among primary school teachers are ......well..........not of the best.

And this is not very good.

Oh < I think am] getting good at the whiney old fogey thing,! )

I'd say yes, so that kids up here didn't have to walk both to and from school in darkness for half of winter.

"Human Rights in Scotland" - I mean really, can people make at least some effort to post in the correct subforums.

Anyway, for those who don't know (and no one seems to have mentioned it) the UK stayed on BST for a year (or was it two) in the early 70s with the intention of measuring the relative benefits of doing so long-term. The idea was scrapped, and I'd assume with reasonable justification.

I believe there is a private member's bill before Parliament at the moment on the subject - no chance of passing since it's not got government support, but at least there's a debate going on about it in the halls of power.

Personally I don't like the idea of the sun not rising til half past nine or ten o'clock. I wonder what effect that would have on sufferers of Seasonal Affective Disorder.
