Do the peoples of the Outer Isles and Orkney and Shetland not have the same rights as the rest of Scotland in sofar as the prices of Foodstufe and Fuel are concerned. Most of the North Sea oil flows through Shetland but that does not mean lower prices.

Rights?

Do you regard commerce as part of Human Rights? I get your point, and the prices paid in many of the islands is scandalous, but do Human Rights enter into it? There is, after all, a real cost involved in transporting goods in small quantities to remote locations. As to whether or not the populations of those locations should bear the entire cost without some sort of subsidy, that's another (political) matter.

Maybe Londoners should have the right to be paid the same as the rest of us, and pay the same prices for stuff too?

Rights or Wrongs

Every thing that has to do with the welfare of the populace, I would regard as a Human Right, I May be wrong (It is only my opinion). We all pay the same rate of taxes ETC. and therefore in theory we should all expect the same level of wellbeing, from our elected representitives, and it is they who make the rules that govern all our rights.
Can you seperate Commerce from Politics in this day and age.
I think not. But obviously Human Rights are not very high on the agenda of life.

Cool

In my personal opinion Neil is more right and less wrong than Mr Marhar.

I will now share with you the 3 most importants things associated with real estate... location, location and of course location.
People are not bound to live in these islands, if they want to they can move to mainland scotland.
The higher prices could be the price people pay to live in the relitive seclusion of these islands.
