I really don't think that English people here go around in a constant state of terror, you know.
Of course not! I have a Scottish person here with me and she says that everytime she visits Scotland with English friends, they always suffer verbal abuse from Scottish friends. Are you trying to say that she is lying? Do you condone such actions?

I say that your friend's experience is really very unusual, and not something I have seen.

Obviously I would not condone such actions.

I don't think, either, that throwing accusations around is a particularly good way to approach your research for your school project, as mentioned in another forum.

"I don't mean to affend in anyway, but i find it offensive to read anti-English stuff relating to things like how we "control you" or how we "over shadow" you or also stuff like how we "force" English culture upon you...thanks to the stupid idiots in the UK PARLIAMENT England is slowly dissolving away and it is WE who are becoming over shadowed by other cultures"

Surely you cannot be referring to the good members of the SNP, Plaid Cymru and the SDLP at Westminster? I am sorry but I cannot have any sympathy for someone when they say that English culture is being overshadowed. There was a time when 95% of Scotland spoke gaelic. Today however that figure stands at about 2%. I know, I know, not so much the overshadowing of the gaelic culture, but more the near total destruction of it.

"Well it is to do with English people getting attacked/intimidated in Scotland, and if i'm not mistaken i believe that is an infringement on their 'Human Rights' in 'Scotland'"

If you want to talk about human rights in Scotland, let's talk about the fundamental human right to self determination of sovereign people. You keep going on about how it is the UK Parliament to blame for all the troubles in England and Scotland, and I couldn't agree more with you. But, unlike the English who effectively choose the UK Government with their several hundred MPs, the Scottish people have to put up with what we are given. Whether British Labour or the British Tories give a jot about child and pensioner poverty in Scotland or our failing economy doesn't seem to matter once they get their election win.

I also have to agree with Celyn. I have never known of an Englishman or woman being assaulted in Scotland just because they are from England. I live in Glasgow and know many people who attend University here from England, none of whom have experienced any animosity from us native Scots.

I've lived in Scotland for 5 years and there are loads of English who have moved here. Just today I went to a very small village school and the headteacher was English. My next door neighbour is English. I guess if they were treated so badly they wouldn't all be here would they? Many have sold their expensive houses in London and moved up here where houses are much less expensive (especially retirees). Many don't like the 'right to roam' law and try to keep people off *their* property. I will admit my neighbour said it took a while before he felt accepted by Scots.

On the other side, I've heard from many Scots how they are treated when they visit England - looked down on, noses up in the air. And at a local call centre here many of the Scottish employee get abuse from English who phone up. They ask if they can be transferred to someone who 'speaks proper English', or get the snooty tone with an 'oh, are you Scotch?' type question.

Alot of Scots welcome English (and anyone else) that come here warmly but everywhere you go you'll always have xenophobes. I don't think alot of people pay much heed to the old rivaly (only when it comes to sports matches)

English politics have harmed Scotland in alot of ways (both past and present) but not many people hold that against a regular English person. And those that do, seriously need to take a step back and think about it

goes both ways

I had an English friend who moved here years ago , she did,nt get treated any differnt or attacked or abused verbally not that i know of, we are still good friends ,although she moved back home to england due to family issue's, and i agree with (sorry forgot ur user name) Argyle.....somthin lol, it goes both ways, im not sayin English people havent had a bad experience up here because theres always some IDIOT somewhere lookin for some one to pick on, its the same anywhere you go, and English people treat us Scot's different aswell like Argyle has mentioned already so works both ways as ive said.
