Hi all of you!

I`m an 18 years old lass from Austria who is absolutely mad about everything concerning Scotland. History is a great passion to me,and I`d simply love to learn more about your past- if somewhere out there anyone of you Scots shares my interest (and boy, I hope so!!!) I`d be glad to get in contact.
My soul`s true home is Scotland the same way as Austria, William Wallace and the Jacobites have been part of my life for several years. I`m glad about any information I could gain and, of course, every Scot who`d like to contact me!

Freedom, but also peace...

Hello Sionnach

There's a gentleman named Robert Gunn who has a very extensive website concerning Scottish history. Has just about everything from Caledonia to the Picts, the Highland clearances to the lowland wars. About the only thing I didn't see in there was any history of Somerled, the Gaelic-Viking warlord of the Western Isles who liberated Scotland well before William Wallace.
Anyway, the link is: http://www.members.aol.com/skyelander/index.html

Good luck and happy hunting!

Somerled, Lord of the Isles, only liberated the Western Isles from his own Viking kinsmen, not the whole of Scotland (which wasn't in need of liberation during his lifetime anyway).

Unhappy Neil...

You are correct. I should have been more thorough in my explaination, but it's sometimes hard at 3:00 in the morn. Thanks for covering my behind:-)

Never heard of Somerled before. A Viking warlord you say? And he liberated a part of Scotland? Wasn`t that in a period there hadn`t yet been an English claim? Must have been quite early in history, please tell me more!

Another question, this time concerning Wallace (the truth). Is there any relation to the historical princess Isabelle even possible? Some say so, others don`t. In Blind Harry´s Wallace he is talking about the queen of England. Is it sure she must have been wife of Edward I, not the princess of Wales, meaning future queen and wife of Edward II? Above all,is there any better source about Wallace`s life then Blind Harry`s version (for I`ve been told it`s eldest)?
