I can admire the courage and commitment of individual Jacobites without admiring the cause.

The leaders of the movement, particularly the Stewart Royal family, used the Highlanders and their other supporters without caring a fig for what happened to them. Individual Jacobites may have been involved out of a sense of Scottish Nationalism (indeed many Jacobite swords were engraved with the words "For Scotland and no Union") but the cause itself was only ever about restoring the legitimate Stewart male line to the thrones of England, Scotland and Ireland.
